We have to save the PLANET, JANET!

Whenever I think of Earth Day I think of the 1990 All Star TV special with Bette Midler as Mother Earth.  During it's tv debut I was just beginning my obsession with The Divine Miss M.  To this day, protecting the planet and not disappointing "Mother Earth Bette Midler" go hand in hand in my mind.

Here's Bette's scenes from the special.

Also here's Paul Rudd making Earth look REALLY COOL on Sesame Street!  You can find this on the just released dvd SESAME STREET: BEING GREEN.

On behalf of Bette Midler, Robin Williams, Paul Rudd, Elmo, and myself... HAPPY EARTH DAY!

Feeling FEIST-y

I posted a Feist cover of ISLANDS IN THE STREAM yesterday, and one of the Bee Gee's INSIDE AND OUT a while back.

What about Feist singing a new rendition of a Feist hit?  She performed "1,2,3,4" on Sesame Street with new cute lyrics about counting.

First of all, here is the original version.  I LOVE THIS VIDEO!

I would LOVE to have my own "crayola gang" of back up dancers follow me everywhere!

Here's the Sesame Street version!

Finally, she closed her second album LET IT DIE (first major U.S. release) with two tunes associated with Blossom Dearie!!!  The french classic TOUT DOUCEMENT and the lovely NOW AT LAST.

Bee Gee or Not Bee Gee? That is the question.

HOW DEEP IS YOUR LOVE of Bee Gees' covers?  Here are some lovely musical homages to the Brothers Gibb.

The first is by Feist.  She made a splash last year with "1234" (as featured on the i-pod commercial.)  "1234" is from her second album "The Reminder."  I really love her first album "Let it Die" as well.   It contains a cover of "Inside and Out" which is pretty fabulous....

Indie LA pop duo "The Bird and The Bee"  covered "How Deep is Your Love" on their EP "Please Clap Your Hands" last year.  It is also on the "Sex and the City" soundtrack which comes out today.  They do a pretty cool re-working of it.

Here is a very interesting cover of "Stayin Alive" by Italian Rockabilly band "The Hormonauts."

Finally here's another cover of  "Stayin' Alive" (along with "I Will Survive") performed by "Young@Heart."   They are a senior citizen band in New England who specialize in reinterpreting rock and pop classics.  They bring whole new meaning to the tunes.  The group is featured in the current documentary hit "Young @ Heart."   The film follows the group as they prepare for a one night only appearance in their home town.  Along the way they offer their perspectives on life, love, old age, and death.  I've been really excited to see this movie and I'm finally going this afternoon.  It looks really cute and very touching at the same time.

Since I posted the Sesame Street Fever pic... I thought I should include these...

Have a wonderful day.
