Feelin' kind of FUNKY!

I have been battling a cold/allergies for about a week and a half.  This think is lingering!  Just when I think it might be done, it comes back again.  Since I've been feeling "funky," I thought I some classic FUNK was appropriate for today's post.

Here are 2 great tunes from the band RUFUS featuring CHAKA KHAN.

The first is one of their big hits which was actually written by Stevie Wonder.  Love the groove on this.  Here is TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD.

I've working with a lot of 70's music lately for an upcoming show.  One of the songs is the Bee Gee's classic JIVE TALKIN'.  Check out this smokin' cover by RUFUS.

No man is an island...

Who doesn't love the Kenny Rogers/Dolly Parton classic ISLANDS IN THE STREAM?    The song was actually written by the Bee Gees! Check out their demo here.

Here's the classic Kenny/Dolly version. LOVE DOLLY!

She has a cool a cappella version on her live cd LIVE AND WELL.  It's part of a really fun medley with all her band singing.  Check out the track here.

There is a pretty cool cover I found recently.  It is a collaboration by The Constantines and Feist (best known for her song "1,2,3,4" featured on an ipod commercial)

Check out their version.

Bee Gee or Not Bee Gee? That is the question.

HOW DEEP IS YOUR LOVE of Bee Gees' covers?  Here are some lovely musical homages to the Brothers Gibb.

The first is by Feist.  She made a splash last year with "1234" (as featured on the i-pod commercial.)  "1234" is from her second album "The Reminder."  I really love her first album "Let it Die" as well.   It contains a cover of "Inside and Out" which is pretty fabulous....

Indie LA pop duo "The Bird and The Bee"  covered "How Deep is Your Love" on their EP "Please Clap Your Hands" last year.  It is also on the "Sex and the City" soundtrack which comes out today.  They do a pretty cool re-working of it.

Here is a very interesting cover of "Stayin Alive" by Italian Rockabilly band "The Hormonauts."

Finally here's another cover of  "Stayin' Alive" (along with "I Will Survive") performed by "Young@Heart."   They are a senior citizen band in New England who specialize in reinterpreting rock and pop classics.  They bring whole new meaning to the tunes.  The group is featured in the current documentary hit "Young @ Heart."   The film follows the group as they prepare for a one night only appearance in their home town.  Along the way they offer their perspectives on life, love, old age, and death.  I've been really excited to see this movie and I'm finally going this afternoon.  It looks really cute and very touching at the same time.

Since I posted the Sesame Street Fever pic... I thought I should include these...

Have a wonderful day.
